Hi Fred,

A google search found your e mail question. I descend from Edith Southerden, daughter of Frank. She was my great grandmother. She married Arthur Gibbs in Hastings in 1916, had my Grandfather Alec John Gibbs in 1921 and then my Mum Carol Gibbs in 1951. Please see my family tree on ancestry.co.uk. It's the Appleby family tree. Do you have anything that would help me? I guess we are dustantly related. Also. Have you checked this out?

Robert W. Brydon: Hello Robert,
Yes I have John being born in 1760 died 10/4/1826, married Sarah Moss in 1779:Gets a bit hazy but looks like they had a daughter Elizabeth Dixon married to Edmund Weller 1/10/1822 and they had six children.A note next to this states, 'Charles Dickens was in love with their second daughter Christiana, who married Charles's best friend Thomas James Thompson. Christiana's younger sister Anna Delancy Southerden, made a disastrous marriage to Charles Dicken's brother Frederick and when he deserted her was supported by Charles. Christiana's eldest daughter Elizabeth Southerden Thompson married William Lord Butler and as Lady Butler, painted 'The Charge of The Light Brigade' 'Scotland for Ever' 'The Return from Inkermann 1877' Christiana's other daughter was the poetess, Alice Meynell.Frederick Dickens died 6/10/1868.
Hope this is useful.
regards
Paul
