History & Aims

Rye in Bloom is a group of independent local people who have, since they first met in November 2001, become a properly constituted, registered charity.

We are constantly looking for new members and new ways of improving our environment.  Following the RHS guidelines our undertakings are four-fold

* Horticulture - we run our own floral competition, encourage local planting and undertake our own planting
*Environment - Litter picks, liaising with the local authorities, bramble clearance, annual environmental projects
*Sustainability - Tree planting, encouraging good gardening practices, water saving projects
*Community - We work with schools, residents, businesses and visitors involving everyone in our campaign

Achievements

Fund raising is crucial and we have been able to raise a considerable sum of money to finance new hanging baskets in the town and to promote gardening amongst the schools and residents and schools of Rye.

We have also undertaken to enter the South East in Bloom competition and our results have been as follows:

2002 - Winner of 'Cleanest Town in the South East' (population under 10,000)
2003 - Winner 'Best Small Town in the South East'
2003 - Winner 'Best Environmental Management Award in the South East'
2003 - Nominated as a finalist in the Britain in Bloom Competition
2004 - Winner 'Best Small Town in the South East'

Join Us!
Rye in Bloom is not all work it is also an excellent way of meeting new people and really getting to know the town. We have enjoyed summer barbeques, Christmas parties and very cheerful working groups. It is a way of putting something back into the community and improving the environment in a very practical way. If you would like to join our group, help at an event, enter the competition or get involved by way of sponsorship please email Lorna Hall at Send E-Mail
